Op het station

At the station

A1 · Beginner · ≈ 16 min

Station announcements are often fast and echoey — even native speakers struggle to understand them. The good news is they're always structured the same way: train → destination → time → platform. Catch these four pieces of information, and you can ignore the rest.

  1. How long is the train delayed?
  2. Which platform is it departing from now?
  3. Do I need to change trains?

In plaats van — this is the trickiest part: the platform has been changed at the last minute. If you hear it, check the display board, not your ticket.
