It's Monday morning and Mila isn't feeling well. She has a headache and a sore throat, and she keeps coughing. She also has a fever: 38.5. She doesn't want breakfast, because she feels a bit sick.

At eight I call the GP. The assistant asks: 'What are the symptoms?' I explain, and we can come in at a quarter past three.

The doctor looks at her throat and listens to her lungs. 'She has a bad cold,' he says. 'Antibiotics aren't necessary. Give her a painkiller three times a day, after meals.'

At the pharmacy we also buy drops for her nose. After a few days Mila is better again.
