Radiodiscussie

Radio discussion

B2 · Upper intermediate · ≈ 24 min

A radio discussion is the fastest speech at this level. Guests interrupt each other, the host brings them back to the question, and arguments pile up. The task is not to understand every word, but to keep track of: who is for what and how they justify it.

  • Question 1: what is the dispute about?
  • Question 2: what argument does the opponent of closing the city centre to cars use?
  • Question 3: where does the representative of the entrepreneurs evade the host's question?
  • Question 4: how does the host end the broadcast?

The host asks twice exactly where there is no data: “Heeft u dat onderzocht?” “Have you investigated that?” and “Wat zou u dan doen?” “What would you do then?”. This is a standard technique — asking for justification and an alternative.
