In business letters, you rarely write omdat er onderhoud is. Instead, you write in verband met onderhoud. Such phrases are not decorative; they are a way to eliminate a subordinate clause and condense a sentence. There are about twenty of them, they recur from letter to letter, and learning them is more beneficial than any word list.
Reason and occasion

| vanwege | because of (simpler, shorter, also business-like) | Vanwege de storing duurt het langer. |

Word order and the comma
- If the phrase is in the first position in the sentence, the verb comes immediately after it: In verband met onderhoud is het loket gesloten.
- No comma is placed after it: it's not a subordinate clause, but an adverbial phrase.
- The phrase can also be in the middle of the sentence: Het loket is in verband met onderhoud gesloten.
- Two phrases in a row are difficult to read — in natural text, they are usually split into different sentences.
